It should be middle of winter now in Croatia but it seems that it will not be the case this year... On island of Krk weather is nice and sometimes only a few drops of rain disturbs almost spring atmosphere. We are now slowly going into final stage of preparations for Liburnija orienteering meeting. Map and area looks perfect and we even got WRE on first stage! When looking at courses we can promise you to have one of the best long distances in 2014 on unique terrain! We have published bulletin no. 1 with preliminary course lenghts - BULLETIN 1. Also, follow us on facebook where we will try to be up-to-date with news from island!

Heading towards entry deadline

In upcoming days you may expect final course lenghts (for elite clases it will be probably 11.2 km for M21E and 7.0 km for W21E on first stage (WRE). Left: wiev from start of stage 1. We hope you will have nice view ;). Entries are available until 15th February so if you want to participate on first edition of Liburnija Orienteering meeting you are still able to make entry.
Categories changed

Due to few or no entries in some classes we decided to reduce number of classes to 12 and from now on you may register for following categories: W14, M14, W16, M16, W21E, M21E, W35, M35, W45, M50, OPEN long and OPEN short. We will correct course lenghts as soon as possible and publish them on web-pages... If you want to make entry you can do it HERE for one more week. Note that we don´t guarantee that it will be possible to entry after that deadline.
Course lenghts for first stage
10th February 2014
Courses for first stage have been updated due to category number reduction. So, first stage will be long distance and expect quite a few good long route choises (up to 1,5 km long). Expected wining times on first stage for man and woman elite are according to IOF rules: 90-100 min for M21E and 70-80 min for W21E. We will make second stage a bit shorter so expected win time on second day in M21E will be around 70min and in W21E 50 min. Also a reminder that IOF Competition Rules forbid the use of GPS devices unless there is “no display or audible feedback”.

Change of format for second stage

In order of getting World Ranking Event on second stage we have changed format of 2nd stage from short-long to extended middle distance. That means 8,0 km for M21E and 5,1 km for W21E. We hope that IOF will aprove this and that You will have 2 WRE during weekend! We will inform you about that information as soon as possible.

You may check out final details regards courses HERE including information about refreshment. Note that courses on first stage have been a bit shorter for some categories. Entries are available till 15th February. We have quite strong start field in elite classes and it will be exciting weekend on Krk - that´s for sure!
100 entries from 10 nations - 2 WRE!

Entry deadline for first Liburnija Orienteering Meeting is behind us. We are very happy to see strong start field on event! Entries can be checked HERE. We got very nice information from IOF - both days will be ranked for World Ranking event! Mapmaker Robert Miček made enormous job during last week preparing the map according to ISOM standard and we are sure that you will enjoy! Terrain is simply amazing! You can check out photo gallery from yesterday. Strat list is also done and we will publish it soon in bulletin where you will also get a lot of important information regards event. Thank you all for entry!
Oba dana natjecanja bit će rangirana za Svjetsku Rang ljestvicu (WRE). Zahvaljujemo se natjecateljima OK Bjelovar, OK Jelen, OK Kapela i OK Sova na prijavama a pošto je bilo upita obavještavamo da će startnine biti za registrirane natjecatelje sukladne odluci IO HOS-a. Naknadne prijave moguće su ukoliko ima vacanata uz 50% povećanu startninu. Uskoro više informacija u Biltenu...

Bulletin 2 in now online. You can find it HERE. For all of you coming to island of Krk for first time on left you can see short video from previous Croatia open stage organized on Krk. Today we had final meeting with land owners and now only thing we are waiting for are maps and offcourse - competitors!

Only 5 days have left till the season opening on island of Krk! Everything looks perfect and if we got sunny weather it will be even better ;). For now we have a bit over 110 entries from 10 countries with very strong starting field in elite classes and we expect quite high scores on WRE list. Long distance on first stage will be tough - both techicly and phisicly while extended middle distance will bring dynamic changes in tempo. Elite clases will face detailed terrain on 1:15000 scale on first stage which will on some places make precise map reading in full speed very hard! Other categories will have 1:10000 scale map. One thing is for sure - event on Krk next weekend will be worth of traveling! HERE you can check out where parking and finish area will be. Size of maps are A3 on 1:10000 and A4 on 1:15000 scale and they will be waterproof. Also on saturday there will be carnival in town so why not to visit it or mybe take part of? There will be also concert of Croatian band Mejaši starting at 21:00.

Finish! We can now prowdly say that first edition of Liburnija Orienteering Meeting is behind us. In behalf of OK Ris Delnice we would like to thank all competitors for coming to event! Without you we could not make it hapened.

For all of you who didn´t come to event you may found maps with routes from best on first stage HERE. Soon expect routes from winers of second stage and short analysis. You may notice that we have also publish non-ISOM map so you may take a peak how would it look like if olive symbol and several other special symbols were aproved by IOF map comision.
Thanks to all cometitors for feedback regards maps and courses! We are very pleased to hear that you were satisfy with both and we will try to make it even better for 2015. Speaking of which, mapmakers arrived 3 days ago on Krk and you may expect at least 2 new maps.
Lots of competitors described Priniba map as extremly hard, fun and special. For next year we are preparing also something unique and only thing that might change is termine. Our wish is to provide winter challenge for elite classes and event will have emphasis on top athlets so we will continue searching for demanding terrains on islands of Krk.

Analysis W21E
7th March 2014
As we promised here is analysis from second stage W21E. It was a close fight and we can say that pre-last control decided who will take the first position!
We knew that middle distance is usualy not offering many route-choises but we decided not to play along! We wanted tough and exciting event and we got it! From the start foint it was obvious that it will be difficult to find optimal route. 4th control was the second big challenge for the girls. 920 m along coast seems to be the fastest while 1320 m along stony paths was just too much.
At 10th control again girls needed to handle network of olives and stone walls and Franziska Dorig magaged it pretty well :)
Control 14 provided also some surprises when Thalia Bertschlinger took safe and fast route-choise on the road while Mirjam Hellmuller and Franziska Dorig dare to go into green area.
Even control 15 had nice route-choise where 270 m long southern route was faster than 100 m throught quite dense green area! Check out what is your favourite route-choise ;).
